        Bus Education Program for schools

        Busways' Bus Education Program for Schools teaches students how to be safe in and around buses and about the role public transport plays in connecting our communities.

        Teaching from the classroom, our School and Community Educators deliver tailored lessons to Kindergarten to Year 6 students in a fun, interactive and hands-on way.

        Our popular bus safety course for primary school students is now available with two exciting new modules covering public transport topics.

        Program Content

        Each module has been carefully designed to deliver learning outcomes aligned to the School syllabus, addressing areas including PDHPE, geography and maths and contains age-appropriate lessons to engage students in different stage groups.

        Module 1 - Bus Safety
        Who is this for?
        Tailored for students in:
        • Early stage 1 - Kindergarten
        • Stage 1 - Year 1 and year 2.
        • Stage 2 - Year 3 and year 4.
        • Stage 3 - Year 5 and year 6
        What students learn
        Students learn and practice safe behaviours on and around buses when travelling between home and school including:
        • Safety at the bus stop
        • Boarding the bus
        • Travelling on the bus
        • Departing the bus
        • Travelling home safely

        • In-class bus safety presentation (20 mins)
        • Bus safety practice on stationary bus (20 mins)
        • Optional bus ride around local area (extra 20 mins)

        • Permission obtained from parents/guardians for students undertaking practical on board bus during this session
        • Classroom or hall to accommodate number of students for training session
        • Classroom computer or laptop connected to a smartboard or projector for in-class presentations
        • Designated location to park bus for the bus safety practice

        Temporary stand changes at Blacktown Interchange

        Saturday 6 February and Sunday 7 February 2021, at Blacktown Interchange buses will depart from different stands to allow for the operation of rail replacement buses whilst trackwork is carried out on the main western line between Parramatta/Merrylands and Olympic Stations. Trains will be operating rail replacement buses from Blacktown to Strathfield and Central.
