Drew with her award

Busways Port Macquarie apprentice mechanic Drew Miante has been recognised on the national stage, receiving the National Youth of the Year Award at the Bus Industry Confederation (BIC) Conference in Perth.

Each year, the Bus Industry Confederation brings together operators, suppliers and industry leaders from across Australia to recognise the contribution of people working in bus and coach. Five national awards were presented at this year’s conference in Perth, with Drew selected as the youth representative from across the country.

This win follows Drew’s recent success where she was named the BusNSW Apprentice of the Year. It is a proud moment for Drew, her teammates at the Port Macquarie depot, and everyone at Busway.

At the Port Macquarie depot, Drew is part of a workshop team known for working closely together and supporting each other’s development. The team share skills, ask questions, and work together side by side to keep the local fleet running smoothly for the community.

Speaking about the award, Drew said “It’s an honour to receive this national recognition. I am grateful to my team who have always supported me and I learn from them every day. I am looking forward to continuing to grow my skills and continue to work hard to grow and support the communities we serve.”

Steven Hawkins, Head of Service Delivery, NSW Central Coast & Regional, said the recognition reflects both Drew’s dedication and the strength of the team supporting her.

“Drew is one of our talented apprentices and a great team player. This is a well-deserved recognition. We have an incredible team and this award also reflects the culture at Port Macquarie, where people support each other’s growth and take pride in celebrating each other’s achievements,” he said.

Drew’s journey highlights what’s possible when curiosity, effort and a supportive team come together — and Busways is proud to continue backing her as she grows in her career.
