Celebrating and supporting the men of Busways

On this International Men’s Day, we’re recognising the contributions of men and highlighting the importance of men’s health and wellbeing.
Whilst driving around, you may have noticed our buses dressed up with their Movember Mos front and centre, a reminder to the community to spark those important conversations with loved ones.
Did you know that males make up 77.6% of workers in the transport industry (2024 Infrastructure and Transport Bureau), a reminder of how many men are at the heart of keeping our services running.
A driver’s day-to-day requires constant mindfulness and focus, navigating the roads safely ensuring passengers feel comfortable, all while checking in with their own mental health and looking out for colleagues. It’s a role that requires awareness and a commitment to the wellbeing of others, making the support of a strong workplace culture all the more important.
We asked Aaron. J, Acting Regional Manager to share his thoughts on what a supportive workplace means to him.
Q: How important is looking after the wellbeing of your team?
A: “Looking after the wellbeing of the men in our depots and drivers is just as important as keeping our services running, they go hand in hand”
Q: What advice would you give to other colleagues on supporting the men in their teams?
A: “Small gestures matter and set the tone for the workplace. Checking in regularly, recognising effort, and offering support when it’s needed goes a long way.”
Whether reflecting on the day or spending time with friends and family, International Men’s Day is a chance to celebrate and support the men in our lives. We are proud of the hardworking teams across our depots and the positive impact they make every day.
