Busways’ gift to the Central Coast community

On Saturday 24 June, over 25,000 people will take part in a physical, spiritual and cultural journey along 10km of spectacular coastline linking five villages on the NSW Central Coast.

The 5 Lands Walk event is a collaboration between the Aboriginal peoples and the broader communities of Darkinjung Country: the artists, the surf clubs, the schools, the local businesses. It is a gift shared by over 700 volunteers and sponsors to create a free, day-long celebration where people from diverse walks of life and cultural backgrounds connect through walking together and experiencing Aboriginal culture, live music, art exhibitions, sculptural installations, and more.

The aim is connecting people to people and people to place – a place where no one is excluded.

Busways whole heartedly resonates with this sentiment, and that’s why we have been a proud sponsor for the 5 Lands Walk event for seven years, providing 11 Busways shuttle buses that are free, wheelchair accessible and mobility friendly.

Glenn Steel, Busways Bus Driver from the Gosford depot who has worked the event for seven years, is looking forward to the 2023 gathering.
“We recognise that the 10km walking route Is diverse and steep at times, and that customers come in all shapes, sizes, and abilities – that’s why Busways provides the free and accessible shuttle buses for the 5 Lands Walk event each year. This year will be my 7th year as a bus marshal for 5 Lands Walk and I absolutely love it!”

Bethany Watts. Logistics Organiser on the 5 Lands Walk committee says, “inclusion and accessibility are key values of the 5 Lands Walk and it is a pleasure working with the Busways team to make this a reality.  We are so grateful to the bus drivers who give their time each year to support the community, not to mention everyone who works tirelessly behind the scenes at Busways to pull off a feat of this magnitude.

For many people, including my own family, it is Busways' involvement and the free, accessible transport they provide that makes it possible to participate each year!”
