Bus drivers in Western Sydney now have access to dedicated male and female bathrooms, meal rooms, and rest areas, replacing temporary or shared setups that had been in use for over a decade.

Busways welcomes Transport for NSW’s completion of a $500,000 upgrade to Parramatta rest facilities, the first in $17.8 million program to upgrade 34 facilities across Sydney.

“This is a positive start to modernising driver facilities and creating a more welcoming workplace for drivers of all genders,” said [Busways spokesperson].

“On-road rest facilities are a key part of the driver experience,” xxx said. “Modern, inclusive break spaces support wellbeing, retention, and recruitment, particularly encouraging more women to consider bus driving as a career.”

At Parramatta interchange, drivers now benefit from purpose-built male and female bathrooms at the Darcy and Argyle Street layovers, alongside expanded meal and rest spaces. Nearby on Charles Street, a converted shopfront provides additional rest areas, removing the need for roadside portaloos.

Busways’ infrastructure team worked closely with Transport for NSW, providing input on design and layout to ensure the facilities meet operational needs and improve the day-to-day experience for drivers.

Further upgrades are planned for Blacktown, Mount Druitt, Bondi Junction, Chatswood, Penrith, Riverstone, Campbelltown, and Macarthur, setting a new standard for driver amenities across Western Sydney and beyond.
