Ioan Checea from Penrith Depot has been hailed a hero after saving the life of an elderly woman on September 29th. While waiting for another driver to do a changeover Ioan noticed a car coming down the road that appeared to have no driver. Ioan saw that the driver of the vehicle had fallen towards the passenger seat and was having a seizure at the wheel. After diving into the car, taking it out of gear and pulling up the handbrake, Ioan was able to assist the woman with breathing while calling an ambulance. The woman was taken to intensive care but released from hospital the next day.

Ioan's heroic act has received well deserved recognition with a story being published in the Penrith Press and online news websites, along with being interviewed on 2GB's Ben Fordam Show yesterday afternoon.

Busways are very fortunate to have staff like Ioan who can rise to any occasion. As Penrith Depot's Manager Michael Gownder said, "The company is very proud to have a driver like him, he is an all-rounder.”
