Happy campers after Busways supplies free travel for Camp Breakaway

01 Aug 2018

Busways was proud to suppot central coast-based Camp Breakaway again last week by providing free bus services for three days.

Camp Breakaway, a not-profit charitable organisation, hosted 32 teenagers at their July Young Carers and Siblings camp.

The teens came from Newcastle, Sydney and the Central Coast.

The camp specialises in providing respite care for people with disabilities and their carers. Busways has been supporting Camp Breakaway for several years, dating back to 2008 when they held their first camp.

Throughout the year, the organisation will run up to eight camps for children with disabilities and high medical needs as well as camps for young carers and siblings who have a family member with a disability.

Located on 25 landscaped acres, Camp Breakaway provides accommodation, meals, activities and entertainment at their camps, all combining for one great break from the camper’s normal lives. The support from Busways of a bus and driver enabled the campers to travel far and wide for three days, including to Nelson Bay.

Busways transported the carers and siblings from camp to a fun-filled day at Laserblast, a toboggan park and to tenpin bowling.

Busways is happy to support a great local initiative such as Camp Breakaway, that provides much-needed support for young carers in the community.
