Busways helps bring School of the Air in Broken Hill to Port Macquarie

15 Feb 2013

Busways were contacted by a cadet member of the Port Macquarie Surf Club, Emily Davidson who is the organiser behind the “Silver City to Surf” event for sponsorship.

Emily wanted to give children from rural Australia “a small taste” of what she gets to experience every day in her beachside town, Port Macquarie. Surf Lifesaving NSW promote and fund a beach to bush program where club members travel to country areas and tell school children about the beach; at this stage, this is something Emily is unable to do so she thought she would go one better and bring the bush kids to the beach!

The “Silver City to Surf” event will not only be about seeing the beach, the aim is to also give the Broken Hill students the opportunity to attend other local attractions such as the local rain forest, Koala Hospital, Billabong Wildlife Park and the Pet Porpoise Pool.

Busways were excited to get on board and support such a wonderful initiative initiated by such a young member of the Port Macquarie region. Busways are proudly supplying transport to a few of the different activities and our wonderful drivers have kindly donated their Busways caps to the students attending Silver City to Surf in show of their support for the local community.
